Our Epic Shores 2018 Visit Wales' Thematic Years

Updated: Jul 8, 2020

Since 2016 Visit Wales has been promoting Wales’ tourism offering following a thematic approach.  Following on from the Year of Adventure in 2016 and the Year of Legends 2017 we are now well into 2018’s Year of the Sea

We have embraced this thematic approach and though, at first sight, ‘Year of the Sea’ does not seem to naturally lend itself to Powys, with a little creative thought, we can show off OUR EPIC SHORES and highlight all that the ‘Real Mid Wales’ has to offer.

We definitely do have plenty of water to showcase and would love you to get involved.  One easy way to be part of this is through our social media campaigns.

Every Wednesday on Facebook and Instagram is now our #WaterWednesday where we will be posting images from around the county to showcase our watery wonderland, so please get behind the campaign by sharing content and tagging #WaterWednesday, #MidWalesMyWay, #RealMidWales  #FindYourEpic and #GwladGwlad  (the latter two are Visit Wales’ hashtags). Who better to create a picture of our area than the people living, exploring and loving it.

Visit Wales offers tips and guidance on other ways to develop ideas relating to these themed years.  Click on the following link to find out more:-

One playful approach to the Year of the Sea has been taken by Rhayader, with a beach party and accompanying video, which has taken social media by storm.  Follow this link to take a closer look at Rhayader's Epic Shores.

Our other social media focus includes “#FollowFriday", where we select one of our followers on Facebook or Instagram and showcase their images via all our other social media channels. We want this to be the year that we shout loudly about how brilliant Mid Wales is, and please help us to do that by telling us about your #MidWalesMyWay.
